The children of Iraq have been caught up in war for the third time in 20 years. The fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the bloodiest conflicts the world has known since the Second World War, and although the war in Afghanistan is over, the humanitarian crisis is not. Most of those who die in wartime do not die as a direct result of violence but from the loss of basic health services, food, safe water or adequate sanitation. This is especially true for children. Not only must we meet their basic needs, we must also protect their fundamental human rights and take the necessary steps to restore their dignity.
